Since getting into the water quality improvement industry in 1982, I believe that hotels and restaurants experience the greatest economic advantage that these systems have to offer. Condos, Retirement Homes, Elderly Care Facilities, and Apartments follow closely behind, with many of the same advantages.
- Reduces housekeeping and maintenance labor costs, where applicable
- Reduces costly plumbing repairs caused by mineral buildup
- Cuts scaling damage to ice machines, air conditioners and other appliances
- Reduces efficiency robbing mineral scale buildup in water heaters
- Extends the life of linens
- Makes soaps and detergents go further
- Provides sparkling silverware and glassware
- Lightens your staff’s workload
- Gives you an advantage over hard water apartments
- Can pay for itself through savings it generates
The systems generated savings in the following areas:
- Maid Service, where applicable
- Cleaning Supplies
- Plumbing Repairs (boilers, steam generators, heaters)
- Miscellaneous (air conditioning, ice machines and swimming pool maintenance)
Water softeners for units with water of 8 to 21 grain hardness (the hardness range in the study) can pay for themselves in about one year through savings in maid service, cleaning supplies, plumbing repairs and miscellaneous items such as air conditioning, ice cube machine and swimming pool maintenance. Savings in areas with harder than 21 grain water could be expected to be proportionately greater.
Units with 100 rooms or more, the report claims, can expect savings of 6% to 18% in these items when compared to the same costs using hard water. Units with fewer rooms can realize even greater savings, ranging in the study from 11% to 29%.
If you are considering a softener for your multi-tenant facility, after performing your homework, you will find out how valuable it will be to your “bottom line”.
